New Interpretations was born out of frustration with the lack of genuinely critical perspectives in genuinely critical times. The purpose of New Interpretations is to provide a platform for critical interpretations that creatively examine, probe, and dissect contemporary issues in such a way that assumed modes of thought are fundamentally disrupted.
Despite providing perspectives on contemporary issues, New Interpretations will not churn out pieces in a hurried manner that sacrifices any sense of nuance or depth for the sake of providing the most immediate opinion as is so often the case. Instead, the pieces found here will always be carefully considered, but nonetheless innovative and radical as they grapple with the most pertinent issues facing us today.
The value of interpretations such as these can be gathered by surveying the bleak landscape that surrounds us, with the resurgence of the far-right, increasing authoritarianism, and the general malaise in the face of these zeitgeists. If in this bleak landscape, as Gilles Deleuze remarks, “There is no need to fear or hope, but only to look for new weapons”, let’s hope that these new weapons can take the form of the new interpretations that will call this place their home.
